For whatever reason, the top NP programs emphasize the ANCC...it's supposed to be more "prestigious" and I can't tell you why. I can tell you that I thought the ANCC exams were tougher, but I thought the AANP exam was more clinically focused and I preferred it (not because I considered it easier).
