    Hello,

As some of you may have heard we experienced a break-in at our home this past Saturday evening.  Therefore, we thought we would share a few of the details with you.  The event occurred while we were out of the house but we believe they may have still been in the house at the time we arrived back home at approximately 9:15pm.

    Items Taken: Jewelry and watches.

Property Damage: Screen, Glass/French door, Flooring and Furniture

The Sheriffs Department did take finger prints and we are hopeful that they are prints of the thief and there are also other details as well that we hope will produce further leads.  The officers also discovered that the thief first attempted to go into the home next to us (I believe house number 136) which is vacant.  The screened pool enclosure was cut there as well but no entry into the neighboring house took place.

One additional detail that everyone may want to be aware of is the method used to enter our home.  We had several patio stones outside our screen porch and the thief used one of these to break through the glass in the door.  We mention this only because you may wish to take a look around your property for any objects that might be used as tools to gain access to your home.

In closing, if anyone noticed anything (automobile, person, activity, etc.) unusual this past Saturday, if you would kindly let us know it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for your time.

    Jim & Jeannette

I'm from the new york area and in the wake of the crowleygate chapter I nearly made a similar mistake! I noticed suspicious activity involving an african-american gentleman, he was rummaging around on an apartment deck. I immediately thought: "burglary in progress" but after watching a bit longer, I realized that he lived there! Oops! LOL

    Dear Homeowner:

The Brevard Board of County Commissioners has tentatively agreed to a new five (5) year contract with Waste Management to provide for automated collection of residential solid waste and recycling.   As we understand it, they will provide new containers, all waste must be in the container provided and positioned correctly at the street.   Anything else outside the container will not be picked up.

There are a number of issues associated with this change:

    1)   The current system works very well. Why pay more for the sake of change?

    2)   Many people do not have the room for these large containers.

    3)   What do we do with the items that don’t fit in the container?

    4)   Many people with limited financial resources cannot afford another increase.

    5)   There will be a 37.3% increase in costs associated with this new automated process. This amounts to over $18,000,000.00 in ADDITIONAL costs

    6)   The service would increase annual assessments 48% over the life of a five-year contract starting next October, instead of 14% for continuing to use standard trashcans and "six-sort" recycling.

    7)  Why is Waste Management charging more if it is reducing the number of workers on each truck?

In today’s Florida Today, Commissioner Jackie Colon has rethought her vote to approve the change and is now no longer in support of the more expensive system. Whether you are in favor or not, the deadline for voicing your opinion in writing is 20 days from the receipt of the county notification letter.   That letter is dated January 4, 2008.   I urge you to contact our commissioner who voted FOR the change. Send them a short email or letter requesting they vote NO on the proposal.
