take any of her clients for a period of a year after I left. I found that to be entirely reasonable and fair. I would never think of trying to steal someone else's clients. My objective here was just to connect with dedicated and extremely capable people from whom I could learn to do the best work possible for our consumers. Thanks for the heads up on some non-competition clauses. I did not know that some agencies might go that far, and what you described does seem excessive.
