Post KS VN Flag/Charlie Co 1/26
Replies 0
Lt Romanetz here , 2/C/1/26: After we left KS we went to an Army base
on the South China Sea to regroup. It might have been Wonder Beach, I can't
recall. Part of our mission was to provide security for the base and man
the lines 24/7. One morning we saw about a click away near a ocean front
village a Viet Cong flag on a bamboo pole on a sand mound about as big as a
MLBB pitchers mound. I was assigned to go to the site with my platoon and
see what was going on. It ended up being a booby trap with fishing line
attached to the pin on a grenade at the base of the bamboo pole.
We ended up getting the flag and I had the Marines from
the fire team that got the flag all sign the souvenir. I ended up taking
possession of the flag and I brought it to several reunions and any members
of Charlie Company posed for a picture with the flag. At some future date
member of the company asked if he could be the "keeper" of the flag and
bring it to reunions. I agreed to that and he has had the flag for probably
about 10-15 years. My name is also printed on the flag.I am asking whoever
has it to return it to me as I have an extensive collection of books,
magazines and newspaper articles about the siege. I am in the process of
donating my collection to the NJ VN Memorial Museum, MCRD San Diego or
possible the Marine Corps Museum in Quantico. My cell is 908-507-5384. We
are all aging and I'd like to see the flag be a part of a donation because
when whoever has it (if not still alive) passes on where does it go?
Hopefully the small group of men that are familiar with this can contact me
about my request. I haven't been to a reunion since the 50th anniversary in
DC and probably won't be making any other unions that we have. Pleas pass
this request to others and let's see what happens. SF 1st Lt, Nick
Romanetz

LZ Margo patch
Replies: 1
LastReply: Larry McCartney
For those of us who not only fought at Khe Sanh, but numerous other
battles, was trying to get an LZ Margo patch made to honor our dead and
those wounded. Lest We Forget. Ostensibly, this poorly thought-out
operation seems to be not one our "superiors" in the Marine Corps talks
about.
My wife will probably make one for me
but was trying to see if there was one nicely done already!

Hey to the few who still check in here every once in a while. Hope
Christmas was good and happy for you. Happy New Year My former high
school student Dave Kniess (1988). went back with Bob Arrotta, Glenn Prentice, Paul Knight and myself to 861 in July 2000.
His 55 minute documentary was titled Khe Sanh: A Walk in the Clouds and
it can be found on YouTube. He revisited that trip with me in November
last year when he traveled from Salt Lake City to Cheshire, CT. He made a
36 minute video while working for Black Rifle Coffee Company. He even
included some footage from the 2000 trip. It dropped on 21Jan2024 and so
far has been viewed 836,000 times. Can also be viewed
on YouTube; just type in brccYoutube in the search window.
Now, for the main course. Over the last 18 years Dave has been
working a 5 hour documentary about Jason Dunham. He has crisscrossed the
country tracking Marines who were in K/3/7 in Iraq when Jason was. Dave
came to RENO reunion and despite some serious AV malfunctions showed the
film to us there. The one hour version has been seen at the USMC Museum
more than once. Finally the the mission is complete. The documentary
will be shown on Prime Video and Apple TV beginning 21Jan. It is a
remarkable documentary. S/F Dennis Copy and paste below. Info can also be obtained on Facebook and Instagram. Just type in: The Gift.
